When the Falls are booming at Iguazu -- This season drought is affecting the falls
Watching Brasilian news, I am stunned by the drastic drop in water level at Iguazu Falls and the Amazon Basin. This phenomenon headlines at least once per week and if the Brasilians are concerned, so am I. The famous falls, which border Argentina and Brasil are currently falling prey to Brasil’s severe drought. The water level is down by over 1/3 and no one is certain how to stop this progress. The Amazon is also experiencing one of the lowest rainfalls on record as rivers dry and ships and fish have no place to navigate. In the north of the country, floods and torrential rain threaten cities and homes but the water isn’t flowing to the rivers.
